Hello to all, decided to upgrade from a 10gal, 2 weeks ago, I picked up a 38gal glass tank with an "oak" stand and top hat for $150.00. I also got an Aquaclear 70 filter for $35.00. A local pet store here in town decided to close its doors after 23 years. I figured that the whole family can enjoy my new found hobby. I have a 2-fancy gold fish,4-reg gold fish, an Albino frog, 2 plecos, an Angel fish, 2-tetras, few minnow feeder fish for the frog. Had a few others, but the ICH made its way through the tank and took a few fish out. Joined the forum to gain some knowledge and helpfull tips Thanks Doug:fish:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you may already have some minor stocking issues. The general rule is 10 gallons of water per goldfish, but 2 extra isnt a huge deal in a 40..its doable..really it depends on what types of fancy goldfish. However, if the plecos are the common type, they get up to 2 feet. I strongly suggest researching each species of fish and its requirements and going from there.
Are you familiar with the nitrogen cycle? If so which cycling method did you select?
Ich is a very treatable problem and when identified and treated, rarely claims casualties. If you have any problems with ich in the future let us know we can help you treat itthumbs2:
