Okay, so i've got a 10 gallon. I really have my sights set on a neon blue dwarf gourami, platies (or cory cats), and diamond tetras. Is there any number combination that would allow me to have all three? I don't want any fish to be lonely, but I definitely want an active tank :D

thankies!

I'd say you could go with the gourami and then 1 school of about 5 of one of the other fish types.

Would you have to go with all the same type of cory or platy? Or can you get a variety?

What is best for the fish is to have schools. If you want to have lot's of varieties of fish you would need a big tank. Because most fish like to be in groups, of more than 5 or so depending on the fish.

Since the tank is only 10 gallons it is not overly large. IMO I would keep the Gourami out of it.

IMO I would get say a school of small Tetras like Neons Cardinals Black Neons, , Ember tetras in a school of say 5-7 with a group of Bottom Dwellers like 5 Pygmy Corys.

Hope this helps,

I agree about the gourami. Despite what they look like in the LFS, they are very active fish and could certainly pick on your other fish. However, I think if you did a school of dwarf corys, a dwarf gourami could work because it would have mostly all of the tank for itself as the corys stay on the bottom. Platies, tetras and whatever else would be competing for space with the gourami.

As for Gouramis, there are smaller ones which would suit a tank like this quite well. Like Dwarf Croaking Gourmais. They are great, and they don't compete to much with others for space like Dwarf Goruamis do.

I agree with Mac, and neons would work in a 10gal..
