I have a community tank with several rainbows, 2 congo tetras, several small assorted tetras, fancy tail guppies, 1 used to be 2 bamboo shrimp, and the newest edition 4 cooley loaches. No one in the tank is over 2 1/2 inches and the shrimp had been fine for months until the recent edition of the cooley loaches. All I found was one section of the shrimp body the original width and about 1/4" long. The shrimp was over 2" long. So who do you think ate the shrimp?

I would guess that the shrimp died and the loaches eat the dead shrimp.

Loachs will eat snails so I would not be surprised if they ate a shrimp. My tetras, zebras, rasboras, SAEs, flying foxs, otos, corys do not bother my shrimp. I have Amanos, red cherry, and Malaysian shrimp with the fish in a 55gal tank.

i swear! it wasn't me! lol

i think it was the rainbows. they get fairly large. they can be aggressive enough to do that.

Feels like we're playing clue, doesn't it?
Well I remember reading about Bamboo Shrimp when I bought mine, and it didn't warn about many fish other than Cichlids eating the shrimp. And I know that size doesn't have much to do with the ability of fish to eat, a little aggressiveness goes a long way. Maybe it could have died on its own, and the other fish ate the corpse. A common occurrence in my experience :) Goodluck!

Are you sure it didn't just moult?

Rainbows (and other sharks) love shrimp sometime it takes them a while to figure out what they are - but when they do its chowtime!
