My beautiful Placo is getting quite large and people say that I may have to get rid of her as she may grow too big for my 25 gallon community tank. When this happens, what do you do with a favorite fish? Put an ad in the paper? Take her back to the pet store? She is a good eater and deserves a good home.

Get a bigger tank? What type of pleco is it? If you really have to get rid of it, there are classifieds here, I do not think I would put her in the local paper.

My friend had one that outgrew his 55g. I think if getting a larger tank is not an option for you, may want to consider trading him in for a smaller one perhaps. Or selling/trading him with other fish keepers in your area. See if your area has any active aquarium clubs. Great way to make sure your pleco goes home with people that will take good care of it.

Unfortunately, my 25 gallon is the biggest I can go. I am not sure what kind of Placo she is I think she is just an uncommonly common, inexpensive placo. I will check with my LFS to see if they can direct me to an aquarium group. Thanks.

The best deal for you is to go to your lfs and see if they will either give you credits, money, or trade him in for another fish for you. If not, I would fall back on the clubs idea.

Clubs are great for situations like this. Check around locally and see if you come up with anything.

I agree find somebody with a 70+ gallon tank to house the fish and just give it away....if you did opt to get another pleco do not buy a "common" pleco. Rubberlips and Bristlnose make a much better option for smaller tanks.

These kinds of situations are always tough. Clubs and LFSs are great for trying to get rid of fish. Another thing that I do is hit up craigslist for my area and post an add for fish. Seems odd but it's worked for me a few times.
