light sensitive??

I've had three amano shrimp for about two months. When I first got them, they did not seem to care if the aquarium light was on or off. They would go about their business as usual. It has gotten warmer here recently, and being that the tank is upstairs (where it's a bit warmer), I have not been running the light much, because it heats up the water. After about two weeks of that, I noticed that whenever I turned the light on, the shrimp immediately run for shade and cover. Is this natural behavior, or am I doing something wrong? Let me know. Thanks.

Maybe your tank is too bright for them.
What are your perameters?

Some floating plants like java moss or something would help shade the tank floor a bit and they might come out a bit more.
Leaving the tank link propped open a bit will let some of the heat out as well.
