I am moving home from school shortly and am thinking of taking it as an opportunity to change the stocking in my 10g. My platys are breeding like rabbits, I seem to have more fry every time I look in the tank. I am going to see if my LFS will take them since when I move home I will not have a close fish store to re-home the fry to. (blush)

If that all works out I was thinking of getting a pair of GBRs. The tank is heavily planted and they would be in there with 2 corys and 2 otos. Is 10 gallons large enough for a pair of them? Some sites say yes while others say no. The tank is fully cycled, 30-40% water changes every week, over filtered and even has a UV sterilizer for good measure so the water quality would be pristine.

Thanks!

I wouldn't suggest anything under 20g for GBRs. I have a friend that breeds them quite regularly, and has great success in a planted 20g long. With that established filter, and all the other goodies why not pick up a slightly larger tank and just move everything from the 10 to the larger tank? Definately have the filtration for a larger tank thumbs2:

Also if you're at all afraid of keeping GBRs perhaps get some Kribs? Their just as stunning, and are hardier fish that breed ALOT. Just be carefull with tank mates as Kribs can get quite aggressive during breeding times.

Hope this helps!
Cheers

Thanks for the advice Flowcus. I will probably pick up a 20g today and use it as a temporary home for my betta apollo since he seems to be a jumper until I get home. And when I get home I'll turn the 10 into a betta tank with the current 10 gallon residents moving into the 20.

That sounds like a solid plan! A 20 would be the perfect size for them imho. You could also add a school of tetras or something to the mix in a tank that size.

i would also fill out your otos school to like 5 or 6, and the corys to at least 5 or more.thumbs2:
