I knew I was getting close to buying my first Corals so I was researching the best and safest way to introduce them to the DT.

Well the smartest thing is to Quarantine everything before it goes into the DT unfortunately I just don't have the proper set up YET for Coral , YET.

So the next best thing is dipping them.
I dipped my new Corals in Melafix at 1ml per approximately 2g of tank water and I could not believe the stuff that came crawling out of the Coral.

So if you can't put your Corals in a QT at least dip them it's very easy and cheap insurance.

Good tip... I've never thought to quarantine corals before. They just go straight into the display tank.

Lots people do not realise that corals and shrimps etc can harbour itch.

If you want a totally itch free tank, you need to do the following:

Keep the tank completely fishless with no new additions (coral, live rock shrimps included) for at least 8 weeks

All shrimps, live rock and coral must go into quarantine for at least 8 weeks without any fish part of that quarantine system

All fish must be treated with copper and hyposalinity for approximately 8 weeks

Unfortunately most people either don't know they should quarantine or are not set up to quarantine corals properly.

My QT is great for fish but I need to upgrade the lighting so I can keep corals and I will soon.
But if you are not ready or can't quarantine you should at least dip.
You will be amazed at what falls off the coral , flatworms Nudibranches , Bristle stars , red worms etc.

you don't want to QT inverts in the same tank as you QT fish in. Any medications stay within a tank even if you completely drain and scrub it. These medications will/can kill inverts
