Finally got a new rat, let the fiancee pick it. Of course she picks the most high maintenance rat in the world! Hairless. Honestly i thought it would be ugly but its very cute, but needs to have lotion applied twice a week, can only have paper bedding, eats (and poops) literally 2x as much and costs 3x as much:hmm3grin2orange: So i'm off to the petstore tomorrow to pickup more supplies!

Here she is: "Wrinkles"

A[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]! I love rats. That is a great name "Wrinkles" very appropriate. I didn't know you could get hairless rats, I have seen the hairless cats, but never a rat. She is lovely! Nice cage too...wish I had a hammock! :shappy:

Thanks guys! Im really happy with her and so is Kirsten, i kinda surprised her with it

Yes she loves to be petted and is really warming up to being handled and stuff She has also already already made friends with maggie :D

Do you have to do her nails too?:hmm3grin2orange: j/k lol

LOL! Actually yea its a good idea to trim their nails :hmm3grin2orange: its really easy if they let you, but i dont trim daemons since shes a biter. If you drill a hole and put food inside of those wooden blocks they sell for them they will really go to town with them with their nails and teeth long after the food is gone, that helps if they get too long.

I think shes crazy but she says shes excited about having to put the lotion on the rat, she thinks its cute that its high maintenance :hmm3grin2orange:

Yeah! Sounds like a woman! :) LOL Ouch a biter. Does it hurt a lot when they bite? My friend used to have a hampster (they also freak me out lol) And call me a baby but it kinda hurt when it bit. And it did quite often. I know hampsters are little craps sometimes though and rats are supposed to enjoy being handled more.

I have heard rats are smart and can be trained. I remember I use to have gerbils, dwarf Chinese hamster and a rare Russian dwarf hamster. The Russian hamster was my favorite as a kid because it did not like my mom lol. I would play with the hamster all the time but when my mom tried anything it would bite her. It was funny to me that the critter would go after her. My mom and I laugh about it now but back then she would get so mad. :hmm3grin2orange:

Now, its my eel posing the problem. I went out of town and my dad was feeding my eel and stuck his hand in the tank. Well, the eel knows the difference between us and attacked/bit him... hehehe

Cool rats! Never seen a hairless one!

99% of the time rats dont bite at the time of purchase :thumb: im just not the kind to return one that does, nothing wrong with that though.

She managed to bite clean through kirstens fingernail without breaking it, like a little blood volcano.. lol She said it hurt quite a bit. Ive been bit before, its not terrible but worse than a hamster, it does bleed quite a bit since the puncture is narrow and deep. Daemon is not agressive, but rather just doesnt understand that i'm not food i guess. I pet and touch her, but dont go near the mouth. I think she is a product of inbreeding, not a problem with the new one, it has a little bit of peach fuzz on her ankles which is a good sign :D

At the petshop choose one that is calm and inquisitive and you wont have any problems, even training it to go in the litter box or more amazing feats.

Oh about petting, she feels like exactly like a pitbull's belly lol :D

Rats make excellent pets, many of them do not bite, unlike hampsters who are prone to bite! But when they do it hurts like heck! Inbreeding has made alot of rats a wee bit screwy, they keep inbreeding them to get certain colors/traits with disregard to what it is doing to them health wise. That kinds sucks. One of my Russian Blues is an example of that. He is very aggressive. :(
For the nails there is another trick, put some bricks in the cage, they love to climb and when they crawl around on the bricks its files their nails!

Wrinkles is so adorable!! Do she require any more temp regulation seeing as she has no fur? I know very little about the hairless ones.

Do they use the hammock? Mine have one too, but they never use it! They like the tissue boxes way better than any of the things I have bought! LOL

The paper thing is odd, do you mean like paper towels? I use that recycled cardboard stuff, would that not work for her? The cedar and pine bedding is really bad for any rodent, the oils in them.

I really do think she is adorable! Congrats!

yup she sure does, more susceptible to hot and cold (strokes)

yea she loves it, been alsleep in it all day, daemon is uninterested though

They cant have anything sharp or rough at all, so its shredded newspaper or the recycled paper puffs. I use the odor free dust free oil free chips but they are no good for her so i had to shred a bunch of newspapers up last night, she really is a very high maintenance rat:hmm3grin2orange:

Thanks for the nice comments everyone! Im gonna take her out in a bit maybe i'll get better pics

Oh what a cutie. I love most animals - there is only one that I'm not too keen on and that's not even a domoestic animal.

What materials do you use if you dont mind me asking? The newest ratty is troublesome, and constantly tearing them down so I need to get into the business of making them as well:hmm3grin2orange:
