I wanted to know how often I should be adding salt in water changes to maintain the aqarium salinity.

Well, unless a lot of water evaporates from your brackish tank, you should add salt with every water change. Make the new water about the same SG as the tank water (or a little lower if you want to compensate for evaporation). Topping off with freshwater also works to combat evaporation.
I think the most important thing is that the SG doesn't move more than 0.002 in either direction in a week. That could whipe out your bacteria and force the tank to re-cycle.

I have limited experience, so take this with a grain of salt (yuk-yuk!). I have my new brackish tank marked for fill level. Whenever the water drops noticeably below the fill line, I refill using distilled water. Then when it's time to do a water change, I will refill with the proper mix of distilled water and marine salt.

Sound right?
