hey people i was just wondering if i'm using too much tap water conditioner because on the bottle it says 5ml treats 38 litres now is that just the water i am adding to the tank after a water change or do you have to keep treating the whole tank after every change?

Always better to over dose then to underdose. If you underdose and your tap has chlorine in it, kiss goodbye your bacteria that eats the bad stuff.

When I do a large water change I always treat for a whole tank!

I just dump way more then recomended. You may go through more, but think of the stress/cost of new fish and having to do water changes daily to keep your fish alive. lol

I normally add a little more conditioner then I need for just the water I took out.

Ok thanks i have been treating for a whole tank every water change and i change water maybe 20% during the week and 40-50% at weekend so i am running through a fair bit of this stuff, i think with the ammount i'm using i could cut down a little. what you think?

Maybe a little, just make sure you use the recommended amount at minimum

You are supposed to treat the entire tank after you do a water change, but I don't think it would hurt anything if you put a lot in the tank.

think of it like this...after a while before changing the water the amount of replacable conditioner needed is always way less than what you are about to add within just every 2 weeks

But the other people are saying you don't need to treat the entire tank, i think i'll just treat for the whole tank when i do my 50%.

Ya you lost me on this comment to. If your treating for chlorine you could let it sit for a day or two before, I would still add though incase of your water containing Cholormines. I Just add about two cap fulls of API stress coat per gallon in my bucket. That usually is way more then enough.
