I've been thinking about getting black scalare. But I've heard there's been problems with their breeding (inbreeding, breeding fishes with bad genes just to make money etc) resulting in the black scalare often beeing hard to keep and easily gets ill and/or dies.

Is this true? :?:
Is it also true that they are very aggressive towards other fishes? :?:

BTW, I would keep them in an aquarium that's 100 cm x 50 cm x 45 cm.

Your aquarium are a bit small for Scalares, You could keep them their for a little while but you would need to get a new aquarium relatively soon.

A scalare aquarium should be at least 50 cm/ 20 inches high since an adult scalare can be 25cm/10 inches high.

Regarding the problems you are talking about. They have been more or less true in all forms of scalare but in particular the black scalare. However this doesn't mean that all fish is of bad quality, only that there have been bad quality fish out there. If buying black scalares extra caution is recommended. Make sure that the fishes look healthy and that they have gill covers and the right body shape.
