Interesting question!

I cook very blandly. We've all actually come to enjoy the real flavour of a food without a bunch of stuff added. Healthier for you. And as a rule I really do prefer to taste my food - not just a spice or sauce that uses the food as a carrier.

However, I'm not opposed to spices per se...so if I want spicy - I'll eat out.

Dont worry im not opposed to bland cooking, I myself was just born and raised eating spicy foods so I still do.
Thanks for your input Rue.:22:

I use alot of spices! I prefer spicy food for the most part, but there are some things that I dont use too much on like umm...ummm...broccoli.

We have a friend who use to visit from time to time from Ireland and he wouldn't eat most of the food here. He said he is use to "bland" food, and didn't care for all the seasoning. I tend to use a lot of differnet spices and such, but no matter what I do my son puts a gallon of hot sauce on everything that touches his fork.

Old Bay is a big deal around here, we put at least some on pretty much all seafood. Other than that and garlic im not big into spicy foods though. Old Bay is just a bunch of spices mixed together, i sure cant remember the list though.

I don't know what I would do without all my spices. I hate when you got to a restaurant and they ask you a spice level of 1-10 and even their 10 is nothing!

Yeahh food poisoning is bad but its not only in spicy foods. Glarior it was like that in DC I wanted spicy but there were so little spices that I could barely taste my food:scry: , but I have nothing against people who like it like that, it's good that everybody has their own taste.:22:

I love fresh ground black pepper and its impossible to have things to spicy for me. I think you can reach a good balance between spicyness and the actual flavor of the food if you marinade and then just top it with a touch of sea salt and some black pepper. Steaks for one of the things Im most picky about, and itallian food just wouldnt be right without garlic. One of the best all around marinades ive found is actually lite Zesty Itallian dressing, the lite usually has more spices and flavor than the regular because it has less oil....great on grilled veggies. Marinade veggies in the dressing for a few hours and move on to a hot grill brushed with some olive oil salt and black pepper.

I like seasoning foods, I would consider myself a pretty good cook and the difference between the two extremes is being able to season something so that it enhances the flavor of the fish, not the other way around.

There's a million ways to do it right, I personally LOVE getting a big Mahi Mahi, and blackening it :D

I love cooking. Spices are something that many people don't use because they are really unsure of how to use them. LOL My personal favorite is using wine for my meats. A chicken slow cooked in the Crockpot in a nice white Zinfandel is hard to beat.

When we used to go deep sea fishing we would come home with grouper, red snappers, tuna, Mahi Mahi, and lemon fish(cobia). We would grill em and have a huge "feast" of seafood, sometimes we wanted to eat it so bad we would clean it and eat it raw off the boat like sushi.....

Good times, good times.......................tasty times.:ssmile:

ILMGB Yes spices are something that most people are unsure of, but I believe that its something that is definantly worth learning.
