This afternoon, I took a break from painting and went on a walk with my dog. I sat in the swing we have outside while she just played around in the grass. Oh, how I love to just sit and listen to the birds. But then - I heard this bird. It would do like 10 different sounds, right after another. I thought at first that there were several types of birds "talking" to each other. No, this was one bird.

Well, fast forward about 8 hours - and it's now almost 3AM. I hear this bird! :help: Of course, I'm not outside - I'm inside. That's how loud this thing is!!

Does anybody know of a type of bird that would do this? It's driving me bonkers! I'm about to attempt sleep - hopefully it won't keep me up!!

:help: :spam: :help:

If it was this guy, he escaped from my cereal.

Robins have the biggest mouths of the bird kingdom, so I bet that's what you're hearing, Ellen, as they have a variety of calls, all of them LOUD. A Robin that frequents a tree outside our bedroom window blasts us awake at 6 a.m. every day.

It's a Mocking bird , they start singing around 3-4 am, and mimic the songs of a dozen other birds, other animals, and even people
I have a pair that nests in my yard every year.

Thanks for the info, Dave and Algenco! I was able to get to sleep with no problem - just tried to ignore the constant noise. lol I reckon it's interesting the bird that it could be - but maybe it should follow the quiet hours!

LOL mockingbirds are funny, when I used to visit a friend of mine that lived in downtown Sacramento I called them car alarm birds. Since there werent as many other types of birds as you might find in a rural area theyd start imitating car alarms, man were they annoying.

Yep its a mocking bird! They are very loud! They even make siren sounds from hearing fire trucks! They repeat just about anything! They are kinda pretty though.

There was one that sat outside my bedroom window and made a terrible ruckus every morning. It's been many, many years ago, but I still remember how the bugger would wake me up waaay before the alarm was due to go off, and wouldn't shut up or move on until it I was too wide awake to get back to sleep. My only satisfaction is knowing the bugger is long dead now... :hmm3grin2orange:

I would have done so in a heartbeat, but such things are frowned upon when you have neighbors living nearby. In any case, what's the average lifespan of a mockingbird? A couple years at most?
