Noticed this today. I pretty much look over EVERY fish EVERY day. This is new... I'm guessing injury, disease wouldn't come over night right?

That's actually a REALLY REALLY good pic Mith! LOL

And yup, looks like he's scraped against something and lifted a couple of scales. Don't stress, they heal up in no time. My frontosa took a chunk out of his head the other day, it's all better now, and my oscar is forever scraping himself on something.

Wow....looks like someone took a chunk out of him. I occasionally find similar wounds on my cichlids, but I haven't had to intervene yet. They generally heal up nicely in a few days. Keep an eye on him, though...if he's being bullied relentlessly, you might have to remove him (or the bully) to prevent a death.

I think my fish are ok. They chase each other around, but its never more than a brief flash. I've never seen them go toe to toe....but obviously they did LOL. Most of the time they seem to get along, this is th worst case so far (other than the herbacors that killed each other LOL)

You can add a little more stress coat to your tank to Mith, that will help the healing process and put the slimey coating back on him.thumbs2:

No biggie. He may have scrapped himself on the edge of the slate, too.

But you asked if disease can show up overnight........it sure can.

I was adjusting plants in the tank 2 weeks or so ago and scared our large black moor and he scraped against the sand and had a ugly looking scrape on his side maybe half and inch tall. Today you can't even see it. They heal very quickly. Just keep the water clean and you shouldn't have any problems

Sometimes, they get burns from the heater too, but as everybody else has said, they heal quickly...

I just want to chime in and compliment you on the great shot. A good picture makes it so much easier to diagnose a problem!
