I have an empty 55 gal tank that I was thinking of making into some kind of cichlid tank. I want a very colorful and livley tank. I like the look of convicts, and when I went into the pet store today they had several tanks with various fish in them all labeled african cichlids. I am pretty sure the yellow ones were electric yellow labs but I may have been mistaken and they had fish of a similar body structure but different colors. Can anyone post possible stocking suggestions? I already have angels and rams so I am not interested in those for this tank.

Can I be dumb and ask what a mbuna is? I know the various types of chiclids and I keep seeing this name mentioned. What fish is it?

Ditto. If a colorful and lively tank is what your after, Mbuna all the way! Make sure you do your research on stocking.
Check your PM.

yep most of the time when you see a tank labled african cichlids your looking at mbuna (pronounced Buna) get yourself some crushed coral for the substrate lots of rocks and a few pieces of gnarly wood... and lots of fish its actually better to be a bit overstocked on a mbuna tank as it dilutes the aggression

Thanks for the replies. I think that is a great idea, I am going to research the fish and start looking for rocks to make a good tank set up .

Thats what i originally wanted to do with my 55 but i didn't want to have to extra bother of aggression and grouping.
