I decided to get an air pump today along with a flexible bubble wand. It took a little bit to get everything situated but it is finally in and on. It throws out a ton of bubbles!

Anyways, I was wondering for those that use air pumps... do you run them constently or how often/how long do you run them???

Yep, run it constantly. You don't have live plants do you?

I turn mine off at night. Only b/c it makes noise, and I know it sounds stupid, but I figure that the fish might like it a bit more calm for sleeping...cheezy I know lol

Oh my god Beilbugs....what kind of bubble wand did you buy??...what brand? I set mine up today as well and mine SUCKS! See my post at: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/showthread.php?t=4131

I'm having terrible luck with mine. It's putting out way less bubbles than a plain airstone. I even returned my air pump and upgraded to a larger one, thinking that was the problem.

I'd love to know that brand yours was, because I'll give yours a try.

I just read your other post. Hopefully you can find some way to get things going.

From the package it appears that the brand is called Bubble Wall. It is bendable, and the amount of bubbles are crazy. I've seen some of my fish swimming through the current that it creates. I might shut it off at night to give the fish a break. It has a website that I'm looking at right now but it isn't organized that great. www.pennplax.com Once at the site, go to aquarium products (obviously lol) go to page 17 and scroll all the way to the bottom and thats where they are. I found them at my lfs.

Good luck!

I have a couple small live plants that I don't even think are aquarium plants but if they don't survive, its not a big deal. On the other hand if the aeration is going to help with my brown algae problem, I'm all for that!

Should you not aerate if you have plants?

Sorry to steal the post, but I hope you understand.

Why is that?

something about nutrients and the oxygen takes it away or something
