Okay, so hubby has decided that he doesn't really like the tiger barbs and they are really bothering our other fish so the LFS said that we can bring them back and they will swap them out. This leads to the obvious conclusion that we must catch the fish in order to bring them back to the LSF... We tried tonight very unsuccessfully (one of the smaller fish somehow got injured and died in the chaos of chasing the tiger barbs in the tank) to catch the tiger barbs. Our tank is 150 gallons and is fairly heavily planted... we have about 20 plants in there and we don't want to have to yank them out. We also have a large flat piece of slate leaning against the back of the aquarium as a backdrop. There is space behind the slate for them to run into and hide along with a couple pieces of driftwood that run interference for the fish also. I remembered reading about putting in food and then running them into the net but we didn't try that until after we had chased them around pretty good and nobody was willing to come after the food. So anyway I was wondering if there was anybody that has a brilliant, foolproof, quick, easy and low-stress plan that is tried and true...... or if that doesn't exist then just any old idea will do!!:hmm3grin2orange:

Do you happen to have a divider on hand? Maybe you could try to get them to gather into one side of the tank then slip that divider in so they have less space to run away.

If you have a big, clear plastic container, it usually works better than a net. I used some kind of deep very clear plastic cookie box (I think) with great effect. If you can get a piece of plexiglass, you can also trap them in the corner, which makes removal much easier.

If you have 2 nets available, use one to chase them into the second net. Usually I will place a net at the middle of the tank, and then will use the other net to chase them into the net in hte middle.

I know it's not too easy, but sometimes I have to remove the driftwoord and other decorations and lower the water level by 40%-50% to catch the super quick fish! It's not the funnest idea, but it helps in the process.

The double net method works for me....I use as large of a net as I can manuever in my tank as the "trap" and then a small net to herd the fish in that direction. Once you pull the large net up the fish are in a very small area and you can easily catch them with the small net to transfer into the travel container.

What I did to remove some Danios from my tank was to sink a bag into the water which you can keep them in and then put food nearthe mouthof the bag,as soon as the fish goes into the bag bring it up quickly.
Hope that helps!!
