so my platy gave birth about a two weeks ago to a few fry, one of which i caught and am raising in a breeder cage thing. along with a swordtail baby. anyways about last night the platy gave birth to the rest of her fry which is about 23-24 fry. which were all caught and put into the breeder cage thing which probably isn't the best idea. now i'm thinking of letting all the new fry go and seeing which ones survive because there is no way that i can house all of those fry. so i was wondering that how many will survive? like what are the chances if they're in with everyone...and they all have java moss and tons of plants..anybody have a similar experience?
I'm sure a few should survive since your tank is heavily planted.

survival of the fittest. It hard sometimes but those livebearers pop out young every month. Unless you have a fish like an Angelfish or other fish to control the overpopulation. My Tiger/Hybrid endler had over 20 frys. I have them in a 2 1/2 gal. tank now. I have a male only tank of 6 gal. and a 5 gal. for female. I only keep the best ones and rehome the rest or give them away for free. Or you can only have one gender tank so you will not have to deal with the babies all the time. Some will survive and breed and make more babies it's never ending.

Well I have a tank full of live bearers and I have yet to have any fry survive other then the molly fry that is still in the breeder. I have a good amount of plants and tons of caves... If you want to keep a couple, I suggest keeping a couple in the breeder.

I too have about 15 Platy fry in a net breeder. I just don't have the heart to let them loose .... what I did though was go to Big Als and they will take them off my hands. They don't give you anything for them, which is fine with me, but will let them grow up and be sold. Just another option for you.
Cheers

I have two 10 gallons with fry from platy, guppy, molly and sword. I feed them 4 times a day. small meals. I let the mollys go back into the 20 gallon molly tank after about 4 weeks. Make sure you don't have angle fish in your take, as they can eat very large fry.

I hear you re PetSmart - I won't buy from them - I been given really bad advice - that's why I joined AC. I feed the fry twice a day. I crush good Flake into a course powder and feed about 10 am - I watch to see how fast the food goes - that will determine how much to feed. I feed again about 6pm. I also feed them the yolk from a hard boiled egg. They really really like this. I put a little yoke in a folded up paper coffee filter (improvising) and make a little hole so the yolk pokes through and then clip inside the net breeder. They get yolk every other day. I will leave it in for about an hour but there is not much left. They will come back to it over and over. They are really growing .....
Hope this helps.
Cheers

I know what you mean about petsmart. they'll recomend a 10 gallon tank for almost anything, except plecos... they recomend a 20 gallon for them.
