Here's a couple pics of my fat clown loaches enjoying some cantaloupe! Seems to be their favorite thing to munch on..... even the frontosas and plecos will eventually take over and eat some too!

I have a shoal of (5) 3-5 inch Clowns...I have been on the lookout for a few more large ones as well! They are addicting!

Clown loaches are so much fun to watch! I have just recently added a school of 2 inch clown loaches(4 of them) and they are doing really, really, well! It's good to see others enjoying this comical fish as well!

I would like to add to my school of 5, but I can't find clowns that are big enough.

Cantaloupe? Interesting. I've heard of zucchini, and give them that, but will have to try the cantaloupe.

Cool pictures. I've had clowns for a while now and want to add a few.

Did you guys do anything special to properly acclimate your clowns? I've lost a couple within days of purchasing, and they always seem really stressed when I get them home...more so than most other fish. I think part of it is the LFS I buy them from keeps no gravel or hiding places in their tanks.

could be the lack of gravel or hideouts... another thing is that clown loaches are scaleless and much more succeptable to pretty much everything. Doesn't take much to stress them. Compare your water chemistry to that of your LFS.

A good schoal of loaches should all hide together and forage together. They get a bit hardier with age and size. The smaller they are, the more likely you are to lose them. I looked around for almost a year before I found a healthy group of clowns I liked. They should be as 'chubby' as possible.... a healthy loach is a fat loach!

Cool. Thanks for the info. I usually only see smaller ones for sale, so maybe that has something to do with it. Clowns really are great fish...the clicking and "playing dead" routine made me an instant fan.

Did you do anything special to the cantaloupe before dropping it in (boil, etc.), or just put it in as is?

By the way, that pleco is a monster! Very cool.

I just take the outside 'skin' off and put it in. It's soft enough to be eaten by all.
Some of the harder veggies like cukes, zucchini, sweet potato, etc. I will boil for a few quick minutes to soften it up. Blanching they call it.

Thanks for the props for my pleco! :) He IS a monster!

You really don't need to match sizes of clown loaches. Small and large ones get along great, and love to all jam in together in some tight spot.

did it take anything to get them to eat cantaloupe? mine are onto two days from the store but seem to have no interest in the fruit.

Give them a little time and they will start to nibble on it.

I left it in there for 4 hrs or so, i saw one of them "sniffing" it but then he swam off and none of them ever seemed interested after that, Ill try it again in a few days when they are most accustomed to their new tank and see.

yeah, may take them a few times to realize it's food.

I left it in there for another 4 hrs or so yesterday. My pleco realize it was food and was nibbling on it for a solid hour, but I never saw any of the loaches interested. They are fairly small probably about 3 inches, are they to small to eat this?

Nice Pleco. thumbs2:

We put some cantaloupe in yesterday. The CAE didn't touch it. The Sunburst Platties nibbled it a little. Most of it was still there this morning. Had to scoop it out.

I'll have to keep that in mind if I end up getting another loach! Good tip!
