View Full Version : Clown Loaches? Great Jumpers?

I've had two very young clown loaches fully jump out of my tank in the middle of the night and die behind it.

They seem to find enough room inbetween then covers that leaver room for the filter and heater wire. The tank is far from topped off, actually a bit under-water because I'm lazy when I do WCs.

It's a good 2-3inches from the rim, which is about another inch...

Is this rather common? What can I do...?

hmmm, I have mine in an open top tank, they've been there a year without any jumping

I have read they are escape artists but I've had no problem with mine trying to get out. I do make sure there's no decorations or branches they can crawl up and out of the tank. What's in the tank with them? I wonder if something is chasing them.

I really do not know how true this is. But the owner at my lfs told me once that loaches tend to jump if the water doesn't appeal to them. I've had that happen to me once too! It's sad.

There's tiger barbs with them, but there were about 10 and they never bothered the loaches.

I do however have some really tall live plants growing that might have contributed. They're about an inch from the surface and growing..

I have never had a Clown jump. Maybe your parameters are off a little?

I see the same, usually i get no reports of this happening when conditions are good, but at the lfs the loaches plop onto the floor constantly.
