Well I just wanted to share my mishap and maybe vent a little. My father in-law had told me about a 55 gallon that his brother was selling. He told me the tank was fine and that I did not leak and all he wanted for it was $50. I thought not bad even if it needed to be resealed. Well I got the tank and it doesn't leak but..... After washing and cleaning it I noticed that the inside glass is all scratched up, the top frame is cracked (plastic), and the bottom frame fell right off and broke. I thought no big deal I can replace the frames and reseal it anyways, but what about the scratches P.I.T.A. After pricing everything out I could have bought a brand new 55g tank and had no headaches. I guess what I am trying to say is WATCH WHAT YOU BUY when it comes to tanks. It's kind of funny because I know better and should have opened my eyes.

sorry to hear about that. Maybe you wouldn't see the scratches with it filled? I got a beaten, used 30gal that has hazing and scratches in a few places, and when it's full you can't see a thing

Same here, I picked up a 55g and I thought it would look horrible. Brought it home filled it and you really cant even tell there are scratches

In aquaria, even in used equipment you get what you pay for, so if you ever seem to come across an amazingly good deal be extra careful, you may have the deal of your life or you can get to know why it is so cheap, we all have made those mistakes.

Same here!

I bought a 55g which I thought I inspected really well until I saw it in daylight the next day. I was mad at myself because of all the scratches but once I filled it up with water I would never know. You spent the money... fill it up and see what it looks like

Yeah I am just gonna reseal her back up, put on some new frames and fill it. The only thing that worries me about the scratches is do I dare say it, algae.
