View Full Version : Fish-less success at Walmart!

One of the Walmarts near my house has finally ditched their live aquarium section! Yeah! :thumb:
I've noticed in the last few weeks that their tanks were empty. I figured all the fish died and they were waiting for a new shipment. Today I went and found all the tanks completely removed from the store and their fish supply section moved around and in the process of reorganization. I didn't see any bettas, either. So there's success in at least one Walmart store!
I also happened across a good deal...I found a 15" bendable bubble curtain on clearance for $3.50. I almost bought an identical one at Petsmart this weekend for $8.99....I'm glad I waited!

You should see if you can pick up a cheap secondhand tank from them:thumb:

The idiots probably just threw all the tanks away. A have seen a few WalMarts that have actually looked like they cared about their fish. That was a year or two ago. I feel like most WMs now just let everything go to hell.

They roll in way too much dough to care about fish.

I'll check the other Walmart near my house since I have to return a few things tomorrow (am I the only one who goes to Walmart, like, 3 or 4 times a week?). Hopefully they too will be doing away with their tanks, especially since that's the location I saw those dead bettas just sitting there (and then saw the same ones, still sitting there undisposed, later that week).
There are also 2 Petsmarts that I go to. One of them is rather clean and maintained in their aquarium dept. (although one employee who's become friendly with me says otherwise about the treatment of the fish), but the other Petsmart is not so good. When I was there earlier today I saw a dead fish in nearly every tank, and sick fish in nearly every tank as well. Their goldfish section and some cichlids were the only parts that looked like it had healthy tanks. As well, everytime I go to that location I notice the bad pressure of their water blower (I don't know what its proper name is...not the bubble/aerator, but a tube that circulates and blows the water around without making bubbles). The water blower's pressure is up so high that the fish are being blown around uncontrollably. In some tanks it's up so high that there's a bald spot in the gravel where the pressure pushes the gravel away, and in most of the tanks the plants have become dislodged and they float and swirl about with the fish. In most stores I tell the employees if I see a dead fish (they can't keep their eye on every tank, every minute), but there were so many today that I didn't even bother.
Poor little fish.

ditto. I think mine probably still has fish. Its getting the add-on for fruits and vegetables, so i think theyre busy enough, and last time i went 2 weeks ago they had heavily stocked tanks

Success at the other Walmart as well! :19:
I went there today and not only did they take down all the tanks, but that entire wall is already finished....new shelves and merchandise already stocked. There were two employeess filling in some space gaps in the shelving with misc. merch, but the fish were gone!
Also...picked up a package of those swirley flourescent bulbs too. I found 3 fixtures in my house that stay on a minimum of 12 hours a day and I decided to start with those (bedside lamp, stove fan/light, garage light). The light is nice....a little warmer (pinker) than the clear bulbs that were there, but nothing that I won't get used to by tomorrow. If the rest of our house didn't have decorative ceiling fan lights and vanity bulbs I would replace all those as well.

LOL.. so I was in walmart last week in the fish section and didn't even bother looking at the fish.. every time that I go in there I just see too many fish in each tank and a few dead ones floating around. I always feel bad and want to try to rescue one or two but I don't because I don't have enough room and I don't even want to think of what a fish from walmart would bring to my existing tank...
I know that the tanks were there but I couldn't tell you if there was anything in them or not.. I will have to take a look tomorrow when I am in the neighborhood... maybe I can get a good dea for future use..
Oh and it looks like Cocoa started up a new thread on this same topic.. LOL
