Ghost Shrimp

I have been successful breeding Ghost Shrimp only once.
Has anyone had any luck? I removed two females loaded with eggs into my 10 gallon nursery tank. It’s the dirtiest, I know that sounds strange. The 30 gal. community and the 10 breeding tanks are very clean and not much in the way of silty food for them. Any advise would be appreciated.

I'm not so sure on this but I think in the wild that the ghost shrimp eggs get carried by the current to somewhere that has salt in the water. maybe you should move the eggs to a brackish tank or somethng.

Ive bred em. You want a 79f temp and the female will carry the eggs under her

I've seen one or two carry her eggs under her, but I have also heard that they need brackish water to hatch, so I'm not sure whether mine hatched or not, but every once and awhile i see a little guy chompin in the gravel. I do keep my salt at FW levels.

The shrimp are holding their eggs and appear to be doing fine. The eggs are growing larger and I expect them to hatch within a couple of weeks. I enjoy providing an environment for them to breed, thats the easy part. Being successful in raising them is the challenge. Thanks for all the response.

what are the parameters for your nursery tank? I'd like to breed them too bc my lfs only gets them in "once and awhile"

Nitrite = 0 - .1
Hardness = 80 - 100 GH
Alkalinity = 80 - 90 ppm
PH = 7.2

i thought water is considered really hard once its over 100 GH? What do you keep your water temp at, and do you feed them anything?

I heard of a pretty cool way to breed Ghost shrimp.

Get a 35-55 gallon rubbermaid tub (not clear) and fill it with declorinated water. Add heaters, and a large peice of driftwood. Release 25-100 GS into the tub. Put the lid on and let it sit for a month and a half to two months. Then open it up and BAM a crapload of babies. Great if you feed them to stuff.

The total GH in ppm is 80 -100, Water temperature is 78-79 deg. F.
They eat algae/vegetable/fish meal wafers or what ever uneaten food they find.

Would ghost shrimp attack fry that are about half an inch to 3/4 of an inch long? And how big do you usually get them? I've got a silver dollar sized angel, but he's always been extremely passive.

i have the tiniest guppy fry eating side by side with my ghost shrimp right now! funny you would ask. the fry would most likely be to quick to hide for the angel fish to get to, so long as you have adequate hiding areas!:thumb:

No I was wondering if the angelfish would eat the shrimp? The angel is only a silver dollar size.
