Well, taking aquarium photos last night, my trusty old Canon A75 died. It made a funny "pop" sound and then, no more image. I get the icons on the screen and can even play back photos on the memory card, but I can't take any new ones, the screen remains black.

It was pretty good to me, I had it for 4 years or so and it was a refurb. I've decided to stick with Canon and there were good reviews on the A1000IS so I ordered one online. A little bit of an advancement over my old A75 :ezpi_wink1: and, like all new Canon digicams, it has an "Aquarium" mode.

I'm intrigued. Does anyone here use this shooting mode? Do you find it useful for taking - uhh - aquarium photos, as the mode name suggests?

Wish my camera had that feature! I don't know why it doesnt, Kodak camera has features for kids, candlelight, sun, snow, flowers, sports etc, why not add 'aquarium mode'?

They have SO many features these days, I'm surprised that there ISN'T an aquarium mode!

I so wish my Olympus camera had that. Whenever I try to take a pic of my fishes it's all blurry, no matter what mode

I have a Canon SD1000 and use the aquarium setting all the time! It's great for taking full tank shots, takes good marco aquarium shots too as long as your subjects aren't moving too quickly.

These pics were taking with aquarium mode, first is my 23 gallon, next two are fish from the local science center:

Good to hear...unfortunately I don't take full tank shots all that often, I guess my tank isn't too impressive.(blush)

Hmm, my guys tend to race around at full speed.

Still, if I'm able to get macro shots using my old A75 in Auto mode, sometimes without flash, I think "Aquarium mode" will help.

I usually use the Macro setting, they come out clearer than the aquarium setting.

I finally got the camera today. I'm just playing around with it (haven't finished the manual yet) and took 2 test shots.

This is without flash (automatically selected) and the second one is at 4X zoom.

Pretty nice, I think, especially the lack of blurriness without the flash (image stabilization I think) and the zoom is better than my old camera.

These are just quick test shots, I'm sure I can get better.

That last one's not an eel is it? It LOOKS like a Wolf Eel, but I see fins.... must be some type of fish...

BTW.... GORGEOUS planted tank... just gorgeous!
