I got a new tank for my birthday (yesterday) I have set it up with water from my existing tank and today I am transfering 2 Zebra danios from my old one to the new one to cycle it.
I am planning to keep platies in the tank, however it is only 7.5 gallons, would this be big enough for platys or would I need to pick something smaller.
Thanks for your help!

It is fine for like 2-3 platies, but make sure they are all of the same sex. Also, why not do fishless cycling? It's usually faster anyways.

Nice gift :) I personally would probably go with some smaller fish, but platies are ok.

Grab youself a mesh bag and some old gravel from your tank float it in your new tank and itll get your cycle jump started.

Or what worked wonders for me in the past was to run the new filter on the old tank for a while and transfer it over. I pretty much skipped cycling that way if you start slow with adding fish. (though, at 7.5 gallons, I'm not sure what type of filters that would be using to be able to do that.)

Thats what I did with my new 10gal quarintine tank. I had a 20 gal with 2 filters on it so i took one off that and ran it on the 10 and the filter that came with the 10gal I put that on the 20 gal. I worked wonders my 10 gallon is eating the ammonia i dose it with like a champ. :)

I cycled a breeding tank pretty quicky by using a filter cartridge that was being used in an estblshed tank.

i added a aquaclear from a old tank to new tank and cycling took a week.
Also, adding ceramic rings and putting them in the HOB or canister helps alot

i personally wouldnt add platies to that tank, too small for my likeing, but im sure some other fish keepers would disagree. you might be aboe to get away with 2-3 of the same sex, dwarf platies however,a trio would fit nicely.although, they are a ton of fish out there 1inch about, that would look good in your tank. but its up to you

Agreed. I'd stick with the very small fish like neons or cardinals.

Unfortunatly with 7.5 gallons stocking options are limited. As recommended i would go with a smaller tetra like neons or cardinals. Maybe some danios (zebra, long finned blue, etc..)

How about Guppies?

Go with 4 Bumble Bee Gobbies . Even though they live longer and better in Brakish water they can live in Freshwater. They are great to have. I am happy I got them.
