Hello all, first post.

My brief history...

I have three kids, and the oldest really wanted a goldfish aquarium. I tried my hand at it when I was a kid and killed some fish. We bought a small oranda and a ten gallon system and everything was great for about six months. I did my research and learned that he would need a bigger tank if we ever wanted to add another goldfish, so we got a 29 gallon tank and transplanted everything and he continued to do well. Then a friend offered me his veiltail and we happily adopted her. She must have been sick, because within a week both fish got ick. I medicated the tank, but they both died anyway. We bought a ryukin, and he lasted less than a week, so I figured that the tank was diseased and gave up for a while.

We decided to try cleaning everything out and starting over. I bleached everything in a 1:20 solution and then rinsed everything very well. We shall see...

We decided to try a tropical setup this time. So after a few days of running the tank, I took a water sample to the pet store and they tested it and said it was fine. We bought four zebra danios, and after four days they seem very happy and healthy. Wish us luck!

While we're letting the tank cycle I'm trying to figure out some tank mates and plants. I'll see you in the forums!

Welcome to the forum!!!!
nice to hear you haven't give up =), aquaria has some disapointments and crysis every once in a while, you just have to keep going and learning from what you read and experience, nice seeing you are doing well!

Hope your tank becomes a jewel. also hope to see some pictures soon.

Just ask we'll answer :)

Hi welcome to the site. You'll probably find out after reading a bit more, that goldfish are coldwater fish, and won't do well with tropicals.

Welcome to AC! :22:

I did the same thing... had the 5 gallon gold fish killer tank and gave up. I just got back into it as well and found tropical fish to be sooo much easier to work with and care for. This place wasa huge help for me and I'm sure it will be for you too! Good luck with the new tank!!

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome!

I visited a local aquarium store today that looks like a hole in the wall from the outside. But inside I was amazed to discover a wealth that has me very excited about the possible future of this hobby.

Welcome to AC.

I think you will need several more danios to get that tank even started toward a cycle.
