I'm looking at two lights on the Dr Fosters and Smith website for my 10 gallon

First (https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=11418&prodid=21887&catid=3) 20" compact lights, 1 Lunar Light, 40 watts, $71.99

Second (https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=16770&prodid=34676&catid=3) 20" t5 lights, 40 watts, no lunar light, regular price $64.99 on sale now for $48.69

Definitely go with the T5 lights. You get a longer life out of the bulbs and you get way more PAR out of them then the PC lights.

Just a comment about the compact fluorescent lights, they are dang pricy! Especially when compared to the t5's Only reason I got the compact light fixture for my 55g was I got it at a real bargain bulbs included, else I would have easily gone with something else.

Anyhow factor in the costs of replacement bulbs when figuring out what fixture to go with. Some are more affordable than others.

T5 all the way. I also got a PC fixture just because of the price. A $150 fixture for $85.

Ok not waiting over a month for my light so I'm back on the market would This (http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUARIUM-LIGHT-24-REEF-ODYSSEA-130WT-POWER-COMPACT-U6_W0QQitemZ270363345422QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Defa ultDomain_0?hash=item270363345422&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) be over kill, anyone see a problem with it hanging over the ends of my tank a bit? Or I just found This (http://cgi.ebay.com/24-T5-HO-Aquarium-Cichlid-Light-48W-Odyssea-2x24W-New_W0QQitemZ300305380839QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item300305380839&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) and I'm wondering why its so cheap..

IMO 130w is overkill, the T5 is better. theyre cheap because odyssea is a brand that mass-manufacters and doesnt use high quality parts. the ballast on my odyssea halide blew within a couple months, but their PC's and T5's are alot better

so an Odyssea t5 would be fine? I'm just having a hard time finding t5's in a 20/18" form for my 10 gallon but I'm finding a ton of compacts. Now 24" t5's are easy to find should I just get one of those and let it hang over?

Maybe I should get a 20 or 29 gallon and use the 10g as a sump so I can fit the bigger light haha
