If each household in America bought 1 compact fluorescent bulb to replace an incandescent, the power saved could provide for a city of 1.5 million. I think everyone should get a houseful of these, as they really save you money in the long run.
Yes, I realize it's ironic posting this on an aquarium forum, where some of its members may have 1000 watt metal halide lighting systems :P Just think of it as a way to compensate for those bad boys :)

yea... in brazil we had a campaign to make people change to fluorescent bulbs
it did help... we were going through a crisis... I dnt knw if u guys knw but mostt of the electrecity in brazil is generate by HYDROPLANTS I think thts how u say it in english I m not sure but anyways u get the point WE USE WATER to spin turbines and make electricity....
and it didnt rain for a long time so the water reserves were starting to run low and if we didnt save we could have been without electricity until we got more water on the reserves
the house I live now are all fluorescent bulbs the long ones just like aquarium light strips but I got it tht way already when I moved in

I've replaced them in most of my lamps except for the ones that are 3-way or where the bulb is either decorative or is not hidden by a lamp shade, such as chandaliers or the ones above my bathroom mirror. Have noticed that I don't have to replace as many light bulbs since I switched to the power compacts. I also use them in 2 of my tanks that used to use incandescent bulbs in their hoods. Alot better growth from my plants and my fish's colors look a lot brighter since I switched.
...am I the only one who gets eyestrain and headaches from them???...

From fluorescents? They shouldn't give you headaches unless the ballast is broken, which results in various degrees of flickering
Hhmm...my daughter's complained about the same thing (...she's 14)...
I should look into it a bit more...
Thanks!

I recently saw an ad about these lights. I wasn't sure if it was a fly-by-night kind of idea or if it was actually valid, but I made a mental note of it. I'm glad you posted this so I could learn more about it. I went to Home Depot the other week and was going to pick up a pack of lightbulbs but remembered these flourescent bulbs, so I didn't buy any until I had more info. I'm glad I didn't buy anything, and now I'm glad I have the info I need. I'm all for a greener world.
