I'm a new aquarist to the world of deluxe fish housing and am going to use these forums as a sounding board, as reference, and (hopefully not) as an emergency solver.

I've had fish for a majority of my life beginning with my mother's beautiful 20-gallon community in my early years. This last month however, is my own personal first crack at not housing fish in bowls, ever. Yay for the fish!

I'm starting with a 6-gallon Eclipse and Mr. Fish - my awesomely smart and spunky betta. So the next question is - What's next? I would like [only a few] more fishies.

One of these days. I'm sort of out of cash... in the laid-off kind of way. heh. I also live in a small city apartment. I would like a 12-gallon and keep my Eclipse as a quarantine tank. I'll get there. Till then I vow to not overstock.

Indeed it is. Since I live in Chicago by its poor filthy Lake Michigan banks, I've made a Lake Michigan scene. Kinda poking fun at it with large sewage pipes, a sunken "rusted" car, and couple obligatory plants. I should post a picture. I'm kind of smitten with it.

Well - Out of short time and slight frustration in learning the gallery - I just plopped them onto my web server. Here we go ...

Modeled after the Chicago shores of Lake Michigan...

Pfft... typical Chicago drivers.

Mr. Fish would like to know if I have a permit to take his picture...

I know! I'm so proud of myself. I cycled this tank for two-weeks before I got Mr. Fish. That first week I had an ammonia spike and a bacteria bloom but then after a water change it looked great. I do weekly water changes. We like to watch him when we're cooking or on the other side of the counter which is why we don't have a background up. He likes to watch us too. =)

That Betta is gorgeous!!! He certainly seems to like the decor! Bettas do like their owners company, so maybe no background is best in that location!!!thumbs2:
