I have just noticed one of my 10 tetras is missing an eye and is swimming on its side.
What should I do, remove it or leave it and hope it recovers, also, what may be causing the problem, could it be my tiger barbs, I know them to be semi aggressive but I havn't had a problem with them before.

Was it eaten out or is it a birth defect? Neon tetras have been inbred so much that you can always pick out abnormalities in a big tank of them at a store.

I think it was eaten, I have never noticed it before, it looks bloody and it is a clean hole, so looks like it may have been pulled/bitten out.

Anything else in that tank other than the tiger barbs? The tiger barbs are more known to nip at fins than actually gouging out eyes. Also, how many tiger barbs are there? A school of 8 keeps their aggression to themselves, but smaller schools tend to be a bit of a problem.

Yes, what are the tankmates? If you have a quarantine tank remove him as soon as possible.

tiger barbs are notorious eye nippers. Quarantine and melafix and pimafix.
One eye doesnt really bug fish apparently, just their depth perception is screwed up a bit

Really? I've never heard of them going after eyes before, usually just the fins.

Update on Eyeless tetra.
------------------------
The morning after I noticed the tetra with the missing eye, I looked expecting it to be stuck to the filter, however it is alright and is doing fine, eating normally and shoaling with the other tetras!
