Euthanize?

So I think soon, that I will have to euthanize most of my convicts. I have had them for free on Kijiji for a long time now, and people just cant seem to get them. I think I can give away a couple soon to my boyfriends aunt when she starts her tank, and I think I want to keep my big male.
So, I was wondering how I should euthanize them, there are about 10 or more that need to go. Freeze them? find some clove oil and use that somehow? I'm just not sure, I havent done this before.

Wow hard question.., i think you should try wether selling or offering them for free to your local pet store, that way they shouldn't have to die, IF there is no more remedy than to euthanize them put a large amount of some
sleeping pill in the water.

I just place it in a small container of water and put it in the freezer. The metabolism of the fish slows as the water cools, until respirations and the cardiac system stop. It is quite humane.

I've always heard Clove Oiul or Frozen water and into the freezer myself, never done it personally though.

its hard to get rid of convects most fishkeepers know em already and dont want em so as been said drop em into ice water and put em in the freezer

supposedly the most humane method is Clove oil then alcohol

Why not just normal water then put it in the freezer? I don't know which one would be better...

yes, they'll go into shock and lose consciousness almost immediately

hmm, well ya, I have offered them to everyone and of course no one wants them. Im not going to do it right away, but I was thinking, what should I do with them all after? Like if I freeze them, thier all going to be in a block of ice...

If you use ice water they'll die nearly right away, and if you freeze them starting with neutral temp water, they will still be dead before they're a block of ice. Either way I would probably bury them outside somewhere. They could go in the garbage too, but I feel bad doing that, haha! Whatever you'd rather do with them.

I have had to dispatch a few of my fish.... if you're not squeemish, just chop their heads off. It's quick and they'll never know what happened. I think that's the MOST humain way to do it... anything else I couldn't guarentee that they don't feel some discomfort. I would think that dropping them in icewater is not instantaneous...

CHOPPING off the head IS... the only problem is with MY method is that it's graphic... but if you want humain... I feel my method is the best, quickest and painless....

don't know if you if you thought of this yet... but post them up in every fish forum you can find in their buy/sell/trade threads. Also try craigs list. Then you can ship them to them. Someone out there must want free fish.

Just out of curiousity, are they healthy? Why are you wanting to get rid of them? There must be a better way then putting down a good healthy fish...

had i tank space, i would pay for you to ship them to me, though you are a bit far from NC. Do craigslist, but but do it for surrounding towns too, there might be someone who will take them. Im surprised you don't have a lfs that would take them

Not the most pleasant thing to do but when you do, do it the humane way.
I also use the cold treatment, but have heard similar things about clove + alcohol.

Oh me too, Ive been looking for I think over half a year now, and in such a small town and surrounding towns, hardly anyone even has an aquarium.
