After an ice and electrical storm, I just went 2 days without power and my generator failed.
No heat or anything else and the cichlid tank went down to 61 degrees!
One large P Kennyi is dead already and I don’t know what else to expect.
My Plasma TV and Bose stereo system were fried when lightning hit the house and the insurance company won’t cover it unless I get an electrician to write a letter of proof that is was lightning.
$4,000 of equipment lost and I can’t get anybody to write a letter.
What a miserable few days this was~!

Sh!t happens man. Insurance companies can be arseholes sometimes. My old girlfriends truck was T-boned by a cherrypicker, and the insurance company was very hesitent to pay, because "she could have prevented it" She was in the middle of a line of cars, and the cherry picker driver was plastered, and hit her going 45 mph. Could have prevented it my arse!

If you have another power out, you have to add warm water to the tank every half hour.
That sucks. Im always worried if im at work and noone else is home and the power goes out, the filters will run dry and frie up
Insurance people are really @ssholes sometimes.

Wow! Do you have one of those roof-mounted lightning rods? That could have been REALLY bad!

lol, ouch. I would talk to the surge protector company. A lot of brands ensure whatever you have hooked up to the end of it to XXXX amount of money

That really sux CM. I live in southern MD and I was worried the freezing rain would bring down power lines or drop some branches from the paper birch standing over my house. Several of my friends' lost power and also water since they are on wells and need power to run the water pumps.

Unfortunately, most surge protectors you buy in retail stores aren't big enough to absorb the full load of a lightning strike without also damaging the equipment plugged into them.

Good thing I live in SoCal where I don't really have to worry about all this stuff. I probably should get a surge protecter though
Sorry to hear about your loss Joe

Hi Ed, I haven't even talked much about the fish I lost, have I?
I was more worried about the darn TV.
My cichlid was my oldest and largest that died.
It's sad, really.
SoCal doesn't get T-storms?
I think you should have a surge protector, although mine did squat :-)

I don't remember having a thunderstorm for a few years. It's been kind of weird right now because its been raining all day. Not really used to that!

I'm so sorry for all this bad news. I would call a TV repairman and have him come over and write a letter for you. He'll charge a service call but who cares?
