View Full Version : Do ya clean your hoses?
For the past couple days, I'd been seeing little white flakes (like food) shooting out the exhaust. I was like huh? SO I decided to check it out tonight when i got home. Turns out, the exhause hose had some debris caked on the inside. The inflow hose seemed to be fine. Maybe the exhaust was the only one because it's close proximity to the bacteria in the filter?
Anyway, I hated to do it, but I disconnected the hose and blew out the debris. It's relatively clean now.
That is all... go on about your business.... nothing more to see here... keep it moving. :22:

Exhaust?? What the heck kind of pump are you running? Does Harley make aquarium filters? I think we now know what's killing your fish! Must have an oil leak:14:
*ahem*
I think you mean output hose....(wink).
I clean out my hoses every few months. I'm surprised yours were clogged already. Generally, I just rinse them with out with water, but occasionally I have to run a filter brush through them (think toilet snake).

Because we're on a respectable forum and not the motorcycle forum where we're used to chatting... LOL... I'll just say, "smartypants!".... if you want the unedited version, meet me on intruderalert... LOL...
Yes dear, I mean the OUTPUT hose... lol. Well now remember, I've been running water in this tank a few months! It was pathetically dirty... but it's squeaky clean now!
Now all I need is another nitrAte test bottles so I can get an accurate reading on my Ates... LOL

A respectable forum....yes. However, I believe there are a number of characthers that would fit right in at IA:hmm3grin2orange:
You might want to consider getting a filter brush so you don't have to *ahem* blow your hose anymore....:wink2:

You need one of these. A canister hose brush. But yours shouldn't be bad yet. Mine has never been cleaned (yikes) and I definately need one.

I try to clean out my hoses on a regular basis. My Eheim Canister filter came with one and they are wonderful.

I use a piece of nylon line with a small fishing sinker to drop through the hose, tie a wad of filter floss on and pull it throughthumbs2: sparkling clean

Oh christ im lazy, I have never cleaned any of my canisters tubes/hoses and my longest running one has been going for right on 8 years. My python tubes get so nasty they turn kind of black...and I just get a new python because by then the whole thing is beat to death and worn out. :14:
