So my brother has an old one and decided it needed to be cleaned REALLY WELL!

He used chlorox clean up. Yeah, it's clean now but bleached to all heck.

Now, how exactly should I tell him to get that out of the tank so it won't be contaminated?? Rinse, rinse, rinse and more rinse?

How would you test that there wasn't any more contaminates in the water once the tank gets filled? (No fish yet, talking him into taking some filter media from my 60 gallon that I stuffed in there a week or more ago just for him for a cycle)

Bleach is usually fine, just give it a good rinse and then let it dry off. Whatever is left will just evaporate.

If you can smell the bleach rinse again.
The silicone may have to be replaced inside. Is it lifting at all?

you can always rinse the tank with some water with a double dose of dechlorinator to make sure all the chlorine from the bleach is gone. It will probably be gone anyway from rinsing it really well with regular hot water, but it doesn't hurt to make sure.

Bleach will evaporate within a few days. Rinse it a few times until you cant smell it or rinse it once and let it sit until you cant smell it anymore. Then put a little extra dechlorinator into the tank to make sure.

Oh, well good then. I thought that was the singular worst thing to use inside a fishtank no matter what.

I'll pass on the info.

Thanks!

Lotsa bleach can be hard on the silicone seam.If it has started to lift at all than you may have to reseal it.
