it was a bit of a project, but it is done. i put all my fish into a styrofoam cooler and drained my tank, saved 15 gallons, and took out nearly all of my gravel. i sprinkled in a layer of laterite, mixed in a small layer of no.2 sand, and then added the rest of the 50 lbs of sand. i used a glass baking dish upright on the bottom of the tank so not to disrupt the sand and laterite when replacing the water. it worked very well and i was able to pour fairly fast. i used 15 gallons of the old water, 15 gallons of RO water, and 15 gallons of poland spring. the water is still a little cloudy with silica, not laterite, but it is settling. i am very happy with how it turned out...i will take pictures tomorrow

Looks great! Is that a whisper ex filter? How do you like it? I recently replaced my penguin with a whisper ex because the penguin was just to loud for my bedroom.

yeah, that is a whisper ex-70 it is supposed to be for tanks 45-70 gallons

it gets the water moving around really well and it is very quiet. i really like it, though i do not have experience with others to compare it to.

thanks alot....i am very happy with how it looks and i am realllly excited to get some more plants started and for the ones i have to start thriving.

im taking a bunch of photos tonight...heres another of my bn, the smaller one....if anyone can tell me if it is a male or female for certain i would appreciate it. the photo may not show enough to tell. i was told that the males have horns. do the bristles on this one count as horns or are the horns the prominent ones that run down the front of the face of my other bn? i really want to have a male and a female
