I have a large piece of driftwood that acts as the focal point for my aquarium. It's also home to my clown pleco.

Recently I've noticed a significant amount of decay and would like to replace it. I plan to keep a small piece of driftwood for the pleco, but would like a new centerpiece.

I would like to keep the aquascape as natural looking as possible and welcome suggestions on what to use as a new focal point.

I find most aquatic decor to be lacking in character.

Can anyone direct me to a site that has 'natural' looking fake driftwood?

Attaching a few pics of my tank. Photos lack quality, I'm still a work in progress when it comes to photographing my aquarium.

Why not just go for another piece of natural driftwood? Why switch out to something not natural?

I agree. Keeping natural is better. Also Plecos love real wood over fake any day.
It is a shame thought when the wood decays, but normally with a bit of looking similar wood can be found.

I like the look but dislike the waste the driftwood produces. I know it's doubtful I will find a 'fake' piece as good as the real thing.

Thought someone might know of a site that had realistic looking fake pieces.

Anybody ever used petrified wood in their tanks?

What waste? I have tones of wood in all my tanks with no waste at all.
The trick to keep the logs from doing that is to give them a good clean down before placing them in a tank. Then you never get waste from them, un-till they decay. And depending on the type of log that can be many many years.

I might know where you could find a real piece that won't deteriorate:hmm3grin2orange:

I purchased the piece from Fellar Stone. It was sold to me as aquarium safe. I soaked it for months before putting it in the tank. It is still leaching tannins and would float if it wasn't held down by 22 pounds of slate.

I am not sure this piece should be submerged. Every week I take out 5 gallons of debris produced by this wood. It's falling apart in my tank. It's also growing black and green algae. I think it's time for it to go and I don't really want to deal with another piece if decay is common.

Attaching a pic I just took from a different view. It's rotting before my eyes.

Oh really! Well, I might just be interested in seeing what you have in stock.

And you're sure it won't rot in my tank?

I find a few really nice Cedar stumps that have been submerged for more than 50 years! They have leeched all the resins and tannins long ago and will last indefinitely under water

Sounds like your wood is a hardy wood type like normal bog wood.

Shame.

I have this piece of 'fake' wood in my tank and my 5 clown loaches and raphael cat all live inside. It's hollow in the middle and has 2 openings near each end. Very cool piece.
