Hi, I learned about cycling the hard way - with Cardinal tetras and water changes constantly. Fish are good and colorful now. I plan on a much bigger tank in the future - current tank is 10g.
Am interested in Rainbows - Boesemani and was wondering if these would be compatible with the tetras. Any thoughts?

As long as the Cardinals aren't real tiddlers, and the Boesemani aren't full size - They should be ok. In a 260L tank I had about 16+ mixed Rainbows with 3 Cardinals (that came with the tank when I got it off of a friend), and they all did fine. Rainbows can be boistorous, though usually with their own kind or similar shaped/coloured tankmates, A friend had terrible problems with a group of Dwarf neon-blue Rainbows with Blue Dwarf Gouramies.

If you can, try to get at least one female Rainbow, as she will bring out the colours in the male(s) and bear in mind - with most Rainbows - they generally look pretty drab when young, and it's only near adulthood that they develop the showy livery colours that we see in photos.

Good luck. :ssmile:

Welcome :)

Bosemoni Rainbows need a tank bigger than a 10g for sure, but like you said you want to upgrade so that's good. They love to swim and dart around quickly so I couldnt imagine keeping them in something smaller than a 30...MAYBE a 20 long but the bigger the better they always say ;)
I personally haven't had much luck keeping them...I'm not sure why.

sadly, she had a infection that wiped them out, only effected the rainbows

glad your cycles done well, ive done a fish cysle with seeded filter material and have about 20 neons, a siamese 3 bn plecs and a l315 plec in the tank and it looks great

5 gorgeous ones, feeding shrimp and color pellets and flakes I may add another but will hold on the Rainbows. I want a large cycled tank b/f investing in a bunch of rainbows. I have ordered a python so am getting prepared for a big tank.
someone at the lfs is selling his 60g in a month for $75 and I may get this.

Thanks for the info. My cardinals hug the bottom 1/4th of the tank altho thay are supposed to be middle swimmers or even top.
Are my two 25 watt lights too much for them? I have a bunch of plants in gravel and floating so maybe they need more room?
Do plants really help with nitrate?
