Fertilizer Sticks

I bought Fertilizer sticks today for my plants. The insturctions say to put the sticks under the roots of the plant. If I do that the plant does not stay down.

I know some of you have used these sticks and can you please help.

just shove more gravel down to hold the plants, or use those planter rocks
