Think a Fluval FX5 would be too big for a 55 gallon? I don't think my single AC70 will keep up with my 55 any longer and I would rather upgrade to a canister. Thanks for opinions.

just make sure the flow is not too much for the fish and you would be fine..

That filter is way too huge for a 55 gallon... a smaller canister would be better...
If you can get away with the flow-rate not bothering fish, I guess it would be fine, but it is overkill.

For the fish in there I think it is a bit much, but the flow can be controlled. I would lean more toward adding a 405.

I agree. Even a 305 and that 70 you have would work.

I'm going to go against the others and say it would be perfect for that tank.
Everyone worried about flow?....um just put a spray bar on the thing to reduce it compared to the double headed outlet that it comes with.
As for filtration, you can never have enough.

That is another good option if you want to make a spray bar.
I personally love th FX5 but unless there is a possibility of an upgrade in the future I would say that a 405 would be a great option if you decide to save a little money.

FX5 would be fine on the tank, the flow isnt crazy bad

Depends on the source obviously, retail is supposed to be something like $200 and $330.

I have future plans of upgrading tank size once I get a house of my own, so that is why I ask about just upgrading to the biggest filter compacity possible. I didn't win one on eBay, I'll just wait till another one comes around.
