I have a new 40gal tank and Id I was thinking "when will i get algae" becouse i have nothing that eats algae yet. also when can I get somthing that eats algae???:20: :17:

It took me about four weeks to start getting algae, standard crappy lighting like 12-14 hours daily. After the first two weeks I was sure I wouldn't get any, since I've seen the tanks at my pet store go from totally clean to green and spotty within two days, but nah, it showed up. Give it some time. :)

In a properly balanced aquarium there is no algae. When you first set up you may get diatoms etc.
Excess light or nutrients will result in algae.
There are also lots of types of algae which turn up for different reasons. I'm pretty sure there is a sticky in the algae thread that goes through the different types and causes.
What type of algae eater were you hoping to get?
