Does it make a difference if the plants are very close to, or touching the heater? Will it burn the plants?

I don't know about the plastic Stealth heaters, but my glass heater will burn my Amazon sword...or any plants for that matter. The middle part of it is quite hot to the touch actually

I know my stealth heaters dont get that hot. If I touch them they feel warm but not so hot I cant touch it. Im not sure how it would affect a live plant though.

it may burn them. All heaters but stealths get pretty warm

It's a glass heater. See, the problem is that they HOB filter is on the right side, and the glass heater is on the left side, and I want to have tall plants at one end. The filter pushes the plants, and the heater may burn them. Hubby said there are covers for the heater, so maybe I'll check one out and see how it goes.

I think there are covers too...

I always keep a clear space around the heater so nothing can touch it...including the gravel at the bottom...

I got a cover for the heater, it's black plastic, and it makes the heater look better, and keeps anything from touching it, so hopefully that'll protect my plants :)
