Well, went shopping with Mom yesterday (not for fish) and stopped by an awesome fish store that we go to sometimes, just because it was close to where we were to begin with. They had some stunning bettas and we were both going nutty over this one (rather expensive) boy. She waved a $20 bill in my face and kept saying "speak up if you want him!!" We left and went to go get lunch. As we were leaving the restaurant she said to me "you know we can't go home without that betta" and kept insisting on buying him for me. So we picked him up, stopped and grabbed another 2.5 gallon tank (I paid for that, lol) then today went to look for a cheap light and she insisted on a fancy Coralife compact fluorescent one (her reasoning was she wanted to buy it for me for Christmas but forgot what it was) Can't argue with that logic... and now, presenting Larry (named after Larry's Seafood where we ate lunch) He is the single most expensive fish I have ever owned... his tank cost half of what mom paid for him ($19 - that's nuts in my book but he was worth it!) This is now betta tank number 3, I swear this is the last one!!! (I don't have any spare filters left now, lol)

I'll post pics of his tank tomorrow when it clears up a little better.

What type of betta is he? That's awfully expensive.

Looks like a plakat to me. Not sure what you'd call that colour tho, marble maybe?

He's some sort of plakat, I don't think he's a halfmoon or anything but his coloring is really, really metallic in person. I wouldn't have got him if he weren't purchased for me (there's no way I could justify that much money on a fish) When you have a fish loving shop-a-holic mother it's hard to say "no, I don't want that!" There are a million plakats on aquabid in that price range, but I honestly don't know much about betta genetics/what is desireable. I just love plakats and I think he's stunning :)

Edit: The store only had two other plakats, one was pure metallic white and the other was mostly white with a little splotch of blue near his tail. They were picked up from a local breeder by the store owner

No, he's definitely not HM, if he was he'd be flawed, as his anal and caudal fins are the wrong shape for a HM.

That's what VT's and CT's go for here, halfmoons are $13 at Petco, and I never ever see plakats anywhere, and any that I have seen aren't really colorful (fins are, bodies are not.) I got my other plakat male by accident labeled as a female so he was cheap, lol

Looks nice. Amazing how much better he looks one in the bowl and not in the cup. It's like depressed betta, then happy full of life betta.

New pics, I threw his tank together quick yesterday, the plants are just extras that were floating around in my bigger tanks I jammed them in there while the water was stil cloudy. Rocks came from my front yard. I'll probably change it around some but he's a little shy still so I don't want to freak him out too much right now, lol

Nice:) I'd get him some more plants, some floating plants would make him feel safe, and maybe a little cave to hide in. Mine always like that:)

Thanks! I'm definitely going to add more plants, I'm just not sure what kind yet. I'm planning on picking up some black PVC pipe next week when I go to Canada (we only have white here) to use in my betta tanks, I have white ones but I like the black better. I know it can be painted, but if I can get black plastic I'd feel safer, lol

He's very pretty. He does look like a marble to me too. And I think he is just a reg. plakat. Not sure though. Either way he is gorgeous!
