RES Problem

My male RES wont stop harrassing my female and ys trying to breed but my female doent want to, she just tries to run away and usualy ebnds up hiding in a cave. They have been together all their lives, its been 2 years i've had them. Their both about 6 inches long and are pretty large, they are currently in a 40g breeder, so i was thinking that could be the problem. But now I think its getting dangerous for my female, the male will bite my females neck and will NOT let go for a minute or until the female gets away, but it leaves nasty scabs on my females neck.

So now I have 2 options.

Im getting a 50g breeder and I can either have just the female RES in there and bring the male back to the lfs (turtle will most likely die there) or keep them both in and hope they get along.

Need help asap, thankyou!



EDIT: I can NOT get anything bigger than the 50g due to lack of space/funding.

What about a divider? Then pull it out every once in a while to see how they do? If the LFS will more than likely kill them...I would really try to avoid that route.
