damn, the one good one said that it had lots of pet and hobby stuff. so i went and figure out a few things along the way:
lots of pet stuff= a bowl and a dog collar
hobby stuff= old lady craft stuff.
But i went by petsmart and got a full marine test kit that is usually 50 bucks for only 25. not a total loss.

Well I had some luck last night. Got a 55 gallon setup and stand for 125 dollars. The guy had put nearly 500 dollars into the setup.

That's awesome for you, but sad for the guy. He probably set everything up and didn't know about new tank syndrome and kept having problems, so he tore everything down and sold it. In a way, though, I'm kind of glad when that happens because then we get all their practically brand new stuff for super cheap!
Just speculating. I have no idea why the guy would want to sell that for so cheap.

Actually the guy had a huge oscar and catfish in the tank, but he lost power here about two months ago for 3 days and it ended up killing the fish, so instead of replacing the fish, he wanted to sell the tank and resetup his 29 gallon.
He had it listed for quite a while and no one had shown interest, and so he cut the price in half and I thought it was a good deal for what it was and decided to get it. Now my g/f is going to inherit my 29 and I'm moving my fish into the 55.
There was one miner cosmetic issue, and that was the trim on the back is loose, but that can be fixed with a bit of hot glue.

The last tank I got (the speaker trade) was a 29 and the guy brought it over and took a look at my big tank. He asked how we ever had time to clean that tank. Then he said he was cleaning the 29 gallon every month by putting all of the fish in a 10 gallon and scrubbing the 29 down, filter and all. He couldn't understand why his fish wouldn't live past a month. I wanted to explain the nitrogen cycle but instead just took the tank.
That's a good deal!
But I always feel bad when I get a good deal at someone else's expense, so to speak...but if that's what he wants to do...his loss...
I don't see how he'll have less issues with the smaller tank though...
We have frequent power outages...mostly just for a few minutes...but they've gone on for 3-4 hours...so far the fish have been fine...but it is a worry of mine...

lol, shame, shame!
Actually, when I first started keeping goldfish, I did the same thing, but my feeders all made it through regardless.

That'd suck! lol
My first 10g was CRAP
I had it EXTREEEMELY overstocked, like 3 platies, 2 goldfish, a pleco, and more overstocked.
And i couldnt figure out WTF a HOB was. im like, so you stuck this underwater or something??
Then, i got my 33g, and everything went better. After that, i had a 33g, 4 freshwater 10g's, 1 SW 10g, a 20 hex, and 2 2g. I sold the 20 hex ( DAMMIT, I WANT IT BACK!) and the 33g, and my 10's are somewhere. Now, its just the tanks under my sig
OH, and GOD, you should have seen the canister filter i sold with the 33g. IT had old fish sh*t and food from 3 years back, just ROTTING in the input and output tubes. I thought better clean it out, and it took A FULL hour to clean em out, and 20 minutes actually puking after

You think you were overstocked? my first tank (i was 6 cut me some slack) was a 2.35 gallon hex. I had a betta, 5 tetras, a ADF and 2 redfinned sharks, that suprisingly all lived the better half of a year. I never did WCs or anything like that. I had no clue. but everyones gotta start somewhere, right?

My first attempt at keeping fish was a fishbowl with 2 goldfish. They died within 3 months.

I helped care for other people's fish... does that count as a first tank? if not I suppose I started with a 20 gal tank and quickly upgraded to a 75 gal tank.
