View Full Version : are all butterfly fish hard to feed ?

I just had a look at the beginer section on the foster and smith and they had at least one butterfly fish their which i think was a racoon butterfly, i think they also had another butterfly which I cant remember

is this really a beginer fish ? are their any other butterflys that are easy to look after

No, the Raccoon Butterfly is not a good beginner fish. Drs Foster and Smith is a terrible place to look for recommendations on beginner fish, they have some listed that should not be there at all. The only good beginner Butterfly fish that is relatively easy to feed and care for is Heniochus diphreutes. Not only are they easy to care for, they are reef safe. Be sure not to confuse them with Heniochus acuminatus -Longfin Bannerfish. H. acuminatus is not a reefsafe butterfly and gets to be about 25cm long. H. diphreutes stays smaller at 18cm but still needs a large tank, 125gal minimum.
