Hi Guys

I was talking to a few of the other members in the chat room last night and the subject of accidents and going to hospital came up.

I was just wondering what injuries you have had that has landed you in the Emergency rooms of the hospital ?

One of my many was when I was 7 years old.

I was trying to get a cookie from a jar in the kitchen.

I opened a bottom cupboard door to see if there were any in there and left the door open a bit. Cookies not there. So I climbed onto the work top after opening one of the top cupboard doors. My Mum walked in and caught me. I jumped off the top onto the bottom door and sliced the inside of my leg open on the sharp corner of the door. That made me stand up quick and I split my head open on the corner of the top cupboard door. So I got a double whammy and boy was I in pain. I still have the gun shaped scar on the inside of my thigh & I still didn't get my cookie. :scry:

I had an inline skating accident that landed me in the hospital. The EMT's originally suspected broken ribs and a punctured lung along with a possible broken shoulder. Turned out all I had was a badly separated shoulder.

I got TBoned at an intersection, when a guy ran a stop sign. The paramedics removed me from the car on a backboard. I was then transported to emergency by ambulance with siren going....I had a lot of muscle trauma but nothing broken. Later the tow truck driver called and said he was amazed that anyone got out of my car in one piece!!!

I know better than to stand between two horses who haven't hung out together before...

...but one time I didn't see my big mare coming, when I introduced the new mare to the pasture. I ended up between them - got kicked in the upper ribs and then got kicked in the butt...literally - my bruises were spectacular...hurt more than the broken rib...

I rarely go to the hospital when i should. Not that thats recommended. I have had several bruised and cracked ribs, stopped going for those a while ago, broken a few fingers/knuckles, got a few concussions, (can you tell i have a big mouth yet? :D) messed up the bone in my heel, sliced into my achilles tendon a little by stepping into a broken vase barefoot (it was dark) .. never went for any of that, but i did have the beginnings of a kidney stone when i was around 5 that landed me in the hospital. As i remember more painful than any of the above..but then again i was 5.

Still never been in any major car accidents

Interesting idea for a thread:hmm3grin2orange:

When I was 7 I got hit by a van while driving my bike down the road. I don't remember any of it, but apparently he didn't slow down, honked when right behind me and scared me so badly I swerved and he hit me. I had a mangled finger on my left hand that required surgery a year after the accident, a dislocated collarbone and quite the concussion. I was in the hospital for 10 days.

I was bit by my grandparents German Shepherd in the throat when I was about 5.

I had my gallbladder removed about 4 months after my daughter was born.

I miscarried and had to have a D&C performed.

I think that's about it....

I've never really gotten injured and had to go to the ER about it, but I have had three surgeries and was in and out of the hospital until I was about 9, maybe? I was born with three kidneys with a fourth one developing. The "third" kidney wasn't a good one though - it was literally killing me because it wouldn't let toxins out of my body. So, once they figured out what was wrong with me (they first prepared my parents to tell them that I had cancer) when I was about 18 months old, they went ahead and took the third kidney out. So, I had exploratory surgery around 18 months, kidney removal surgery around 2 years old, and then when I was about 4, I had to have another surgery in which they corrected one of my two remaining kidneys. It apparently had two ureters, so the waste would just go around and around in my kidney, not leaving my body until after too long. After that, I had kidney infections like crazy, so going to the ER and staying in the hospital for awhile was the norm for me. I'm not bothered by shots anymore for that reason. lol But, when I was about 8 or 9...something like that....we went to the doctor and he said that he could see no traces of any kidney problems what so ever other than the scars left over by the surgery. Pretty amazing considering they almost put me on dialysis. :)

Yes, I know - probably TMI, but I like telling my story sometimes. I'm pretty much a miracle.

with my brother i made a contraption made superchair, a lawn chair strapped to two skateboards. They dragged it on a bike and i rode it by strap until it folded up and launched me forward. i got badly scraped but no trip to the hospital was nessecary.

I have sooo many stories, typical boy I guess and Im not done yet, only 23 yrs old. :ssuprised:
Ill share a couple...
When I was 5-6 I was at after school care and jumped off the swing and landed hard breaking my collar bone. I was immediatley put in time out for breaking the No Rough House Rule, go figure :hmm3grin2orange: . I was hurting badly but didnt say anything, they thought I was crying b/c I was in time out. Sat there until I tried to raise my hand to complian about the pain and couldnt. Mommy came to the rescue. :11:

Second good one, no real story here. I simply crashed my BMX bike and broke my jaw. Wired shut for 3 months and lost 18 lbs b/c all I ate were milk shakes and slurpies!!

Last one, 4 yrs ago. Drove down a rainy construction area and hit a puddle that was actually a 3 feet deep hole. Flipped the truck onto its side and slid into a pole. Broke my Femur and Tibia/Fibia, both were pertruding through the skin. A couple screws, titanium rods, a couple months of bed rest and a few weeks of Phys. Therapy.....good as new. (breathe) Wheeewww!

Oddly enough all these events occured in the months of Nov and Dec. Made it through the last couple years without a hitch!! Probably b/c Ive learned to stay indoors. My mom says its like that movie Final Destination but death can never catch me, well actually he catches me but always lets me go. :hmm3grin2orange:

My stomach started hurting real bad when i was 16yo. My mom figured it was just food poisoning and said i needed to sleep it off.

Couldn't sleep a wink so i woke up late at night and by the time we finally got to the hospital they said my appendix was very close to exploding. Went in Sunday morning, out Sunday night without it.

I also got hit on my motorcycle on night on campus. Turns out an ambulance happened to be waiting no more then 100yards away. By the time i got up it was already on the scene. I wasn't hurt enough to go to the hospital at that time but within a day my arm started hurting really bad so i went in for x-rays. Just a sprain i think.

I haven't actually been to the ER for myself, but I have had to take my youngest son twice in the last couple of months.

First he tripped into the corner of the stage at school and needed stitches in his leg, and then soon after that he flipped off the trampoline and hurt his neck. It turned out to be just muscle damage, but it is very scary when the doctors mention the words "possible spinal injury" and rush him thru for xrays.
He keeps me on my toes.

My mate had an op on his arm from skating then had metal plates put in it, then one night i fell out with my stepdad so we were fighting then my mate tried to stop it and i turned round and hit him and he ended up having a metal plate again to hold his shattered cheek bone in place. The devils juice works in mysterious ways....

Fell off back of motorbike when drunk! every morning after waking up i had to peel them from my ass for 2 weeks (maybe why it never healed right!)

Never been forced to go to the emergency room but I have been a couple gas explosions. The first one burned away much of my hair and my intire eye lashes/brows. It also cause somewhat serious burns on one of my hands. It was in the bush so no hospital in the area. the hand healed in a couple of weeks.

But a couple of years ago, I was on my motorbike and dinked my friend (Dinked = she rode on the back, umm, doubled up, or whatever otehrs may call it) My brotehr was on his motorbike and came up too close to us to scare my friend, she leaned wayy to much and the bike flipped over. I wa strapped between her and the motor..

Ended up badly burning my leg, which inturn also got infected.

Still have an duck-egg sized scar, but it has gone down alot!

aw god here were go

1. when i was a kid, my parents wanted me to take skating lessons, and i didnt want to. i wiped out right away and broke my left arm, and the mother ****** instructor wouldnt let me leave.

2. about 5-6 years ago, i had red dots all over my legs. apparently it looks 99% like some flesh eating disease but it was just some harmless thing and not the flesh eating disease.

3. last year i leaned back to throw a baseball and broke my left leg somehow. got me to the ER. no surgery and not even a cast

ive had a few close calls, i almost got creamed by a bus on my bmx and i would have been dead. lighting hit like literally 2 feet from me a couple years ago and it was the loudest sound i will ever hear. not too long ago i tried to do a stupid move driving and i judged bad and it was either hit another car or the curb. my maxima took a curb at around 70km/h with 0 damage, only thing that busted was my RPM gauge which now cuts in only every 5-10 minutes, otherwise it stays at 0 or 8. the guy that was in my passenger side would have gotten creamed if i hit another car

another near crash was back when i took driving school the instructor taught me how to drift since i was his last student. it was winter and we went to a empty parking lot at night with cement to drift around. after i cranked the handbrake all was good, and i did a drift with the nose end facing the right. i cranked the wheel right instead of left to end the drift and i did a 720 and almost flipped the car

when i was 4 i ran through a sliding glass door. had recontructive surgery on my right underarm 300+ stitches.
at about 10 i fell from the top of a super slide (about 15 feet) and landed on my head.
when i was about 23 i broke 2 ribs in the mosh pit at the slayer concert.

and finally when my youngest daughter was two i was doing dishes and turned to tell her for the third or fouth time to get off the dishwasher door when the glass in my hand broke. i waited an hour but couldnt get the bleeding to stop. only 7 stitches that time.

I was riding on the back of a friend's motorcycle when a car swerved in front of us and slammed on the brakes....we rammed into the back of her car and I was launched over the roof and landed head first on the pavement. The bike hit her back bumber so hard it was embedded into the bumber and standing up on its own:ssuprised:

too many stories to mention, I have a conective tissue disorder, called hypermobility joint syndrome, when I was about 16 my left knee would dislocate about 15-20times aday most times I could just pop it back in lol, had a op to correctr it, but still plays up, need a knee replacement but good old nhs wont do one till I am 60.in about 30yrs time

Anyway my best story is horse related, I was working with them and had to call in a horse from the field about 20 other horses there, I went in to get him, and got both barrels in my back, honestly thought I had done a rib, Owner made me sit on a pallet in the field, I was right at the back of a muddy field, one horse came behind me put his head down so I could lean on it, Anyway one ambulance arrived, and cause they thought it could be my back, they called another ambulance.

Anyway I was on good old gas and air, and getting quite high, other crew arrived to help strecher me out the field, and they cariied me over the fence into the school, where we still had jumps up from a lesson I had taught, and high on gas and air I said do you want to go over the jump

Turned out I had broken my coxys(sp)

was back on the yard next day though lol

Umm I ran into a fence when I was 4 and split my head open, got 10 stitches

"helping" friends build there mudbrick house when I was also 4 and dropped one of the bricks on my hand and broke it

13 fell down the steps at a school. Knocked myself out and did my L ankle.

15 at work and fell and nearly broke my right ankle, did al sorts or damage to the tendons (they still say they need to operate on it, but with 3 kids under 5, crutches just don't work!)

16 working with my friends horse who had been mistreated and really played up with a saddle on, so was just getting her used to being ridden again without a saddle for starters and she was doing good, then we were going down the paddock when a rabbit jumped up out of a tussock and she reared, I fell off backwards and then she bucked and I got both feet just below my shoulder blades. Cracked some ribs and knocked the wind out of me, felt like I wouldn't ever be able to breath again! (had these really cool perfect hoof shaped bruises there though, LOL)

18 I crash tackled a big maori guy playing rugby and he landed on me and I dislocated my collar bone

19 ran headfirst into a brick wall and knocked myself out, they thought I'd done damage to my spine, but turned out OK.

21 got a major kidney infection and ended up in hosp for a few days

22 got appendicits

22 had a whole bunch of boxes filled with old medical records fall and bury me in the store room at work (luckily I work in a hospital!) injured my hip and had heaps of bruises.

23 labour started early and and to go in to hosp to get stuff to stop it

25 labour started early again about 4 times (probably doesn't help that all the times that it started early is triggered my me falling over or into something! LOL)

26 my son opened the study door really hard and it swang back and hit the display cabinet
which shattered the door, grabbed him so he didn't get cut and ended up with a shard of glass through my wrist, which I tried to putt out myself but it broke off just under the skin. Went to the ER at one hospital (not mine) and they said that there wasn't any glass still in there and proceeded to push it in further while telling me that there wasn't anything in there. Went to my hospital and they took an xray and here's the glass, less that 2mm away from my radial artery!!!!! So had to go into surgery and have it taken out but then they couldn't find the glass (I spose it would be hard trying to fins something the size of a matchstick that is clear in amongst all the blood and stuff) so had to cut further, then they ended up waking me up while they were operating to ask me if I could tell them if I could feel it! So now I look like I've slashed up with the scar on my wrist.

27 another kidney infection, but also find out I'm pregnant:hmm3grin2orange:

And I haven't been back there since then (thank goodness!). I'm just accident prone.

well, i didn't have to go to the Er for this but I say it was pretty close call.

It was when I was like 13 yrs old, I was speeding down a sidewalk with my bike and there was a car waiting on an intersection, so I was about to stop but my brake didn't work so I ended up smashing my bike on the side of the car since I was able to turn the bike sideways and jump off the bike before me actually hitting the car and I went home with a couple scrapes from hitting the ground.

When I was 18 I was ran off the road in a curve and over the guard rail by a semi...that was the end of my late 50s F100. The vehicle was resting agasint a tree with 2 weeks ripped off going over the guard rail, no air bag for me :P I crushed my knee cap, and partially tore my lateral collateral ligament in my knee, as well as badly stretching the medial collateral ligament my right knee is still honestly shot from it. I also had a concusion, couple broken ribs and a sprained wrist.

I got a burn on my left inner calf from getting hit with a bottle rocket, it exploded on contact and burned my jeans into my leg. I got a really bad cellulitis infection from that and id say is honestly the most painful thing to date trying to heal.

Next trip to the hospital was a severe allergic reaction to frozen bloodworms, feeding the fish all nice and fine as always. Then my throat started to swell, I got hives and started to itch and turn red, one of my eyes also became swollen shut.

Woah you made me think so much!

Well i think a good one would be last year, we were playing with water in a friends house, i start chasing one of my friends with a water balloon and i slipped in some water in the floor, what stopped me was a wall and i broke my ankle on it^^.

I fell off my bike when I was 13!
I rode another 20 miles that day with my buddies and went home.My mother made me go to the doctors and get it cleaned and a tetnus shot.
I felt feverish a week later and my mother thought it was a flu or something.A few days later I was much worse. My father carried me into the hospital that night and the docs took me into the ER.I was so sick they told my folks that I may not make it through the night.
I ended up in traction that night and I was there for three months.I am still not sure why I was in traction but I hated it!After 3 months they said it was time to get out of bed.I had to retrain myself to walk,it was horrible.I ended up haveing to wait till I was 23 to have my first hip replacement. It lasted 13yrs.I messed it up in Kansas City and had to drive the empty 5 ton home. That was a lot of bouncing around.I have had another since and need another now.I can't wait!
Yes I can.The doctors told me its my decision and wait till I cannot stand the pain any longer.I am glad I can stand a lot of pain!:hmm3grin2orange:

lighting hit like literally 2 feet from me a couple years ago and it was the loudest sound i will ever hear.

Same thing happened to me... Lightning struck a metal fence maybe 10-15ft from me while I just happened to be facing the fence and looking in the general direction. 3 other people were around but I was the only one facing the fence, and thus, was the only one who watched the strike and was temporarily blinded by it.

I didn't see the bolt at all, I just saw a big spark at the top of the fence, flash, and everything went completely white. The sound came shortly after and there was a good 20-30 seconds, it felt like, where I wasn't sure if my vision would be coming back cause all I was seeing was a bright pure white sheet of nothing. Vision came back pretty quickly though once it started coming back.

Total sensory ownage... But I think it's kinda cool that I got to experience it, even though it kinda sucked...

When I was 4 I tripped over and gave my self a fracture in my skull, and a very large slash out of my forehead while playing. Needed about 10 stitches. Other wise that is all.

That is all for me. Most of my injures I fix myself.

yeah, it was nuts. i didnt know there was a thunderstorm coming and i was sitting in my summerhome in a small town. i went outside, and all the sudden bam.

right after, i went in the house and someone called my cellphone. another huge bolt flew right by the house after and i threw my cellphone to the wall thinking lighting would somehow get to it

Back in the day I was always in and out of the hospital lol...

Let's see. Some of the worse ones were I blew my knee out in a HS football game against Mt. Lebanon (pgh area). I didn't know it was blown out at the time, so I kept trying to play. A few downs later one of the kids dads on the other team had my coach pull me and messed with it, and then wouldn't let me play the rest of the game... By the time I got off the bus at after the game my knee was huge.. Turned out I tore my ACL, MCL and miniscus.

In a hockey game in college (IUP goaltender) I got hit by a kid on the other team and it knocked my mask off, and then got hit with the puck around my right eye. Had to get stitches and it torn a muscle in my pupil, so now my right pupil doesn't dilate in the sun. Pain in the butt because I need to wear sunglasses almost all the time.

In a race at Watkins Glen, I rolled my car 4 times. I walked away from that one tho... Thank got for 8pt roll cages and 6pt harnesses lol
