Anyone have an idea how to anchor plants other than the LFS anchors which are a rip off IMO. I am using a very well cleaned nickel inserted into my zuccinni to sink that... I am hoping that won't pollute my tank but obviously that will not work for plants.

Thanks

Have you found a solution?

For zucchini I just used a stainless steel bolt with 2 nuts to hold the zucchini in place. Never hurt the fish and it was really cheap.

You can also pin down plants with stainless steel nuts. Just bundle them through the center. For some plants it can be hard to remove the nut later though. I typically only use the nuts when I'm trying to root my stem plants. Once they're rooted I pull the nut off the bottom and plant the roots.

Its not terribly important for it to be stainless steel especially if you are going to remove them eventually, rust is iron and oxygen (iron oxide) both of which are already found in planted tanks, so big issue there. The penn plax ones are incredibly cheap (like 1.50 for a dozen or less) and are made of lead, but i think its sealed or something like that so it doesnt leach.

For veggies i just use a spoon to weigh them down when its needed.

maybe non lead fishing weights? im not sure what the are made of but they are not supposed to oxidize. i would look into it before using them but they should work. or as others have suggested stainless steel.
