I've seen a couple of threads touching on the subject of conditioning your fish for breeding and i think it involves seperating the fish for a week first right?
If so is it best to leave the male or the female alone for that week?

separating the sexes and feeding with high quality foods especially live will produce more eggs, if left together they will spawn every day or two, so while separated the females will produce more eggs.
Place the females in the breeding tank and a day later at lights out introduce the males, with a little luck at sunrise they will spawnthumbs2:

Ok Algenco, shall do that then.
Once again, thank you for the help.thumbs2:

It also depends on the fish in question. Cichlids or catfish are best left together while being conditioned, tetras or other egg-scattering species are better off separated.

The other thing about separating them is that the male can see the female but not get too close. You can separate them completelly but some people do it this way:

Putting the female or male (ussualy the female i dont know why i guess is a male territorial thing) behind a screen or in a breeder so the male can see her and feel her arround but not to get in contact with her, this makes him even more... i dont knwo what to say it "cleanly"... well imagine your grilfriend in front of you for a week and you cannot even touch her hand... thats how the male gets.

These are techniques ussualy done for those who breed fish to sell, the problem with breeding fish with a home aquarium is that if you get too many fishes you are gonna need some extra space, so maybe is good to knwo but not to practice? i dotn know how big your tanks are or what you plan to do with the fish i just wish you a great time breeding fish :).

For my own experience fish multiply quite fast once you have goven them green flag to do so and i always tried to do thing naturally, i owned a breeder with i used to keep some stuff floating arround but never used it as it was intended, i woudl just let them do their business and then find myself amazed one morning with a lot of tiny litle fishes floating arround the lower plants. It's like christmass morning!
