The debate about how many rocks you can put in your aquarium is about to be over. This is a standard 10 gallon aquarium with the rocks on the bare glass. The results surprised me. Please do not try this at home (especially what you see at the end of the video).

Now get some popcorn, sit back and enjoy!

The tank never even cracked. I thought it would hold a lot but I never thought it would actually hold my weight. You would have to put an ungodly amount of rocks in a tank to break it.

That is just incredible. Who would have thought that the tanks are that tough?

Not to rain on your parade, but it wasn't a very scientific test. You should put water in the tank. :ezpi_wink1:

Filling the tank with water would not have made the glass break. If anything it would have pushed the numbers up. My results may be slanted but if anything the tank is even stronger than my results show. The tank held over 200 lbs which is way more rocks than would even fit inside the tank.

My parade wasn't rained on. I set out to prove that egg crate is unnecessary and I believe I have done that.

Unnecessary, at least on a 10g. Larger tanks are another matter. I wouldn't want to add weight to a 200g to find out. It would be an expensive experiment if it didn't take the weight :wink2:

The glass is much thicker on larger tanks. I very much doubt you would run into problems there either. This experiment was set up as an extreme. Having so much weight on one point will never happen in a real aquarium. If a ten gallon can hold 220 pounds on a single rock then I very much doubt you will have problems with your 200 gallon tank where the glass is 1/2 inch thick.

Okay f1oored, now buy a hood for the 10g and put firecrackers and fireworks in a 10g and see if it holds.

I like to think of myself as the aquarium myth buster (or aquarium buster for short). Right now I'm working on something regarding the long term removal of nitrates. And soon I will be looking into crashing a nitrogen cycle with tap water. I'm always open to ideas that don't involve fireworks.

So, are you an Adam or a Jamie?

I am the best of both. I am rash and quick witted like adam and like to break things like jamie.

LOL F1oored. Very cool video BTW. What is the music you chose as accompaniment, it sounds very familiar. Is it one of Bachs violin concerto thingies , or maybe Handel?

That's really cool F1oored!
What was the name of the music playing in the background?

Vivaldi's winter. My favorite of the four seasons and appropriate for the current season I think. I was going to use an excerpt from Mozart's Requim but couldn't find one that was long enough for the video.

That's awesome! Definately not something I would try, but it sure was a good experiment and fun to watch too! Thanks for proving people wrong about the amount of weight that a standard aquarium can hold! I would have neer known!
