Anyone ever done this or even heard of it? I was doing some research on Mystery snails and they say you can either put a piece of cuttlebone, (for birds), right in the tank water or put some in the filter for calcium supplement for the snails?? Thanks for any info. about this. :ssmile:

Wow! That sounds interesting! Neat way to add more calcium.
At first, I thought you were going to say they like rubbed their shells against the cuttle bone to remain healthy or something. lol

People used to use egg shells to do the same back in the day, so as long as it contains calcium, i dont see why it wouldnt work.

I heard somewhere about the egg shells too. Guess there are quite a few ways to get calcium in them. Learn something new every day. thumbs2:

Hmmmm.... I might to have to try that for my mystery snail. I always have cuttle bones around for my cockatiels....
I wonder how much to put in then? Would it be dependent upon the size tank or on the number of snails?

Lol! I am not exactly sure what they do with them to be real honest. If they just absorb it or if they suck on it, (or whatever snails do), or what they do. :14:

Read that somewhere too, heard it works well. Though in my case I tend to discourage snails:p

They are not the type of snail to be discouraged :P Though, pretty much all the others found in freshwater would be lol
Ive experimented with different amounts. Ive had trouble finding a good source for exactly what they need. Thats why i chose not to admit any amounts to that article.
They dont eat it though, from what i understand the growth of their shell uses not only nutrients from their body (diet) but from the water around it to grow healthily.
